WABASH NATIONAL CORPORATION ANNOUNCES ROADRAILER ORDERS IN EXCESS OF $50M

LAFAYETTE, Ind., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Wabash National Corporation (NYSE: WNC) announced today that it has received orders for its RoadRailer(R) products from Triple Crown valued at over $50 million. The order (largest received to date) is for 1,770 53' RoadRailer plate trailers, 885 high speed Mark 5 rail bogies, and 13 of the latest RoadRailer CouplerMates(R) bogies.
Triple Crown is a freight transport company that is jointly owned by the Conrail and Norfolk Southern Railroads. Triple Crown operates its line haul operations primarily via rail using its fleet of over 3,000 RoadRailers. This new equipment will expand their fleet by 25% and replace the older Mark IV 48' units. After replacing the Mark IV units, Triple Crown plans to increase the length of its RoadRailer trains from 75 to 125 units. The new ultra-lite weight RoadRailer(R) plate trailers have superior inside dimensions and weigh 1,000 pounds less than a domestic container and chassis. Over 80% of Triple Crown's RoadRailer fleet will be 53' in length when delivery is completed in 1994.
Wabash National Corporation designs, manufactures and markets standard and customized truck trailers. The company believes that it is the second largest U.S. manufacturer of truck trailers, the leading manufacturer of both fiberglass reinforced plastic trailers and aluminum plate trailers, and, through its RoadRailer Division, the leading manufacturer of bimodal vehicles.
