WABASH NATIONAL ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER RESULTS
LAFAYETTE, Ind., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Wabash National

Corporation (NYSE: WNC) announced today that net income was up 81 percent and net sales were up 46 percent for the first quarter of 1992 when compared to the same period of 1991.
Net income for the first quarter totaled $1,735,707 (16 cents per share) compared to pro forma net income of $958,887 (12 cents per share) for the first quarter of 1991. (The pro forma amounts for 1991 reflect a pro forma tax provision as if the company had been subject to corporate income taxes during the quarter.) Net sales for the quarter were $59.1 million, compared to net sales of $40.5 million for the first quarter of 1991.
Jerry Ehrlich, president and CEO, stated, "While we looked for 1992 to begin the recovery of the recession of the trailer business, the demand for our products continues to be stronger than we had anticipated. In order to meet this customer demand, we increased our labor force by 28 percent during the quarter. This sharp increase caused some reduction in profit margins during the quarter, as productivity slipped while the new associates were being trained. We anticipate this productivity will return during the second quarter and production will continue to increase. We are optimistic that this strong demand for semi trailers will continue through the balance of 1992."
Wabash National Corporation designs, manufactures and markets standard and customized truck trailers. The company believes that it is among the three largest U.S. manufacturers of truck trailers, the leading manufacturer of both fiberglass reinforced plastic trailers and aluminum plate trailers, and, through its RoadRailer Division, a leading manufacturer of bimodal vehicles.
