Voyant and Pingtel Deliver Integrated SIP Phone and Instant Conferencing Solution for the Carrier and Communications Application Service Providers --CASPs-- Market.

Pingtel(TM) and Voyant Technologies, Inc., today announced a highly scalable and reliable IP Telephony solution that will enable hosted IP (HIP) voice service providers, Carriers and Communication Application Service Providers (CASPs) to provide enterprise customers with an integrated IP phone and IP voice conferencing service. Designed to provide a new revenue stream driven by IP-based collaboration services, the system will be demonstrated this week at the Spring Voice on the Net conference in Phoenix.

The integrated solution combines the Pingtel xpressa(TM) IP phone, Voyant's native IP conferencing platform and a Voyant-developed java applet for conference initiation and control. The solution provides end-users with the ability to launch and manage instant voice conferences "on-the-fly" without a prior conference reservation or subscription. Users involved in a one-to-one phone conversation can bring additional participants in on the call simply by pressing the integrated conference button on the Pingtel xpressa phone.

By leveraging the IP conferencing platform's open, XML-based APIs and Pingtel's XDK, Voyant has developed a java applet specifically for the Pingtel xpressa phone. Once loaded on the Pingtel xpressa phone, the applet allows conferences to be initiated and controlled through the graphical user interface on either the Pingtel xpressa phone or PC-based Pingtel instant xpressa(TM) soft phone. The applet also enables conference moderators to track all in-conference participants, mute and un-mute participants' lines, and bring additional participants into the conference. Additionally, all of these functions can be performed via DTMF commands.

The Pingtel/Voyant solution utilizes the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for call set-up and tear-down. It supports multiple codecs including G.711, G.729a, G.726 and G.723.1 within a single media server and within a single conference without decreasing server capacity, enabling service providers to offer a variety of service levels based on desired voice quality.

Service providers or Carriers can begin with a single media server and add more as their customer base expands, with the ability to scale up to over 100,000 simultaneous ports supporting over 1 million subscribers. Wind River's VxWorks real-time operating system, used by both the Pingtel phone and Voyant's Instant conferencing platform, provides superior reliability. XML-based billing information provides easy integration with existing billing systems.

The Pingtel xpressa phone gives end users a "plug-and-talk" device that plugs directly into the Ethernet network, integrates with the PC over the LAN, and permits automated software delivery configuration and updates as well as optional manual configuration. It offers top audio quality, click-to-dial capabilities, a generously sized LCD and first-class phone functionality including multiple phone books, speed dial, auto redial, hoteling and much more.
