Vote launched for UK's favourite gay-themed novel.
A public vote is to be held in the UK to find the most popular lesbian or gay novel.
The Big Gay Read, devised by librarians and publishing agency Commonworld, was reportedly inspired by the BBC's Big Read search. It is open to any lesbian or gay-themed novel and the winner will be named in May 2006 during the Queer Up North festival in Manchester, northern England.
A list of 21 suggested contenders includes 'Tipping the Velvet' by Sarah Waters, 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit' by Jeanette Winterson and Alan Hollinghurst's 'The Line of Beauty'.
