Volvo's war on crooks.

Security is the watchword for Volvo's new S70 saloon and V70 estate.

Officially launched in Norway this week, it boasts a greatly improved alarm system among no fewer than 1,800 changes from the original concept.

Volvo's comprehensive new plan for thwarting thieves includes:

ALARM sensors in the doors, bonnet and boot lid.

ULTRASONIC sensors in the pillars which trigger off the alarm when something moves inside the car.

INCLINATION sensors which trigger off an alarm if the car moves.

GLASS-break sensor if thieves try to smash any of the windows.

A ROTATING lock system which swivels round freely without opening the door if thieves try to force the lock.
