Volkswagen AG (Xetra: VW), a Germany-based automaker, Northvolt, a Swedish battery maker, along with other companies and science labs are collaborating in battery cell research.

The so-called European Battery Union is to commence in early 2020 and aims to accumulate know-how on battery cell production, including research on raw materials, cell technology but also the recycling of used batteries.

Volkswagen said, 'All the partners will step up their investments as a result of the planned additional research activities.'
