Voith Paper, Saica set new speed record.
VOITH PAPER, SAICA SET NEW SPEED RECORD. Saica, Zaragoza, Spain reached a new world speed record on PM 9, a Voith Paper machine. The machine, which started up in October 2000, remains the fastest and most efficient packaging paper machine for corrugating medium at 75 gsm basis weight. The machine had set production and speed records in September 2004, February 2005, and September 2005. On January 27, 2006, an average speed of 1494 m/min was run for 24 hours and a maximum speed of 1530 m/min was reached. During that time, corrugating medium at 75 gsm basis weight was produced for 12 hours at 1506 m/min without any sheet breaks. PM 9, with a wire width of 8100 mm, produces corrugating medium in a basis weight range of 75-110 gsm. Its design speed is 1500 m/min.IN OTHER VOITH PAPER NEWS:
* UPM has selected Voith Paper to optimize high density cleaning and coarse screening at its Schwedt/Germany mill. The existing single-stage high consistency cleaning will be modified to the HiPRO Protector system. This two-stage system has reduced sensitivity to process fluctuations. UPM expects to reduce heavy contaminants in the accepts and fiber losses both by 50%.
* Australian Paper, a member of the PaperlinX Group, has, with Voith Paper, upgraded the approach flow screening system of paper machine B10 at its Burnie, Tasmania mill. The goals were to improve sheet quality and minimize paper machine, winder, and coater breaks, while allowing for more flexibility in the use of market pulps. Rebuild work and start-up were carried out in November 2005.
* Voith Paper's winder optimization at Perlen Papier has increased quality and capacity of the existing Rolltec winder of PM 4.
