Yet something has clearly gone wrong with the amount provided for research into lung cancer, the second greatest killer.
It falls well down the league table, easily beaten by the money made available for leukaemia, a terrible disease although responsible for only a small number of deaths.
The suspicion must be that lung cancer doesn't get the funding because there is a feeling that much of it is self-inflicted by smoking.
That isn't acceptable. Much more needs to be done to help sufferers from this appalling killer.
