Vitara gains diesel power.
Suzuki has introduced a new diesel version of its Grand Vitara in three-door form that is aimed more towards off-roaders than soft-roaders.Unlike the petrol-powered three-door model, essentially a so-called soft roader the new 1.9 DDiS Grand Vitara uses the drivetrain of the manual transmission five-door model.
Costing pounds 15,000, it also supplements permanent four-wheel drive with a centre differential lock and a low range of gears for off road capability.
The system's four different modes are selected via a dash-mounted rotary switch.
Power output from the turbocharged Renault engine is about 130bhp and there is 221lb/ft of pulling power.
Economy is 38mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 195g/km.
Equipment includes climate control, front electric windows, radio/CD player.
