Vista Technologies names Allen J. Simon Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

LOS ALTOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 26, 1996--Vista Technologies, Inc. (Bulletin Board: VIII) headquartered here, said today it named Allen J. Simon as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, to create the business infrastructure and provide marketing direction to its regional affiliate organizations throughout the US and Canada, pioneering the introduction of laser vision correction surgery to the general public.

Simon held various high level management positions with the Shaklee Corporation over a successful 12 year career. As President of Shaklee U.S. from 1986-1990, he led that organization through a period of dramatic expansion, and facilitated its sale at a substantial market premium. Shakelee Corporation is a leading manufacturer and marketer of nutritional, personal care and household products.

Simon also has an extensive background in high-level business consulting, tackling complex logistical challenges and introducing state of the art management practices for a broad range of organizations in behalf A.T. Kearney, a recognized world leader in full service management consulting.

Simon sees important parallels between the emerging market for laser vision correction services today, and the market opportunity he perceived for nutritional products 15 years ago. "In both cases," he said, "what you have are huge, fragmented markets that are about to take off, characterized by individual practitioners and small business owners."

"What has been missing," he said, "is a clear idea of just how the business should be organized and marketed to the public, and the expertise to pull it off -- and here is where Vista has an extraordinary opportunity to make a major impact."

According to Simon, "Vista appears to be the first national organization to understand that the laser vision marketplace today operates on a person-to-person basis. It is the testimony of people who have experienced the procedure that encourages others to try it. Therefore, the place to begin -- and the place Vista has begun -- is by recruiting the most widely respected doctors in their own local communities, who have already done the most procedures, and already have the largest number of satisfied patients. Now the challenge is to provide these local practitioners with a first-rate 'turnkey' business enterprise."

According to Tom Schultz, Vista CEO, "In Allen Simon, Vista gains an experienced corporate leader with world class organizational and marketing skills. He is uniquely suited to the task of making the Vista growth strategy work at the local and regional levels throughout the United States and Canada."

In addition to its regional affiliates, which include VLC Michigan, VLC Northeast, VLC Northwest, VLC Pacific, and VLC Southwest, Vista also owns and operates six laser vision centers in Italy, and in Sweden.
