LECHIA GDANSK v RUCH CHORZOW 5.30pm BACK-TO-BACK victories have lifted Ruch Chorzow into Polish title contention and their impressive recent form could continue with a victory away to strugglers Lechia Gdansk this evening, writes Dan Childs.

There was little to choose between the teams last season with Lechia Gdansk finishing in eighth place - five points and four places above Chorzow.

But the clubs' fortunes have been wide apart this term with Chorzow climbing into third place - just six points adrift of leaders Slask Wroclaw - and Gdansk becoming embroiled in a relegation battle.

The one positive aspect for Gdansk has been some reasonably solid home form - five draws and one victory from the six games.

But the Baltic coast side have not played at home to any of the current top four teams and their confidence may be suffering after a four-match winless streak which seen them fail to score a single goal.

Gdansk have struggled for goals all season - netting just six in their 14 matches - and they would be unwise to rely exclusively on their defence this evening.

Assisted by the contribution of summer signing Pawel Abbott - an effective striker for Huddersfield, Darlington and Oldham in the English lower leagues - Chorzow have netted eight goals in the last three games.

The Blues have impressed on their travels - winning four of their last five away games and look tempting 15-8 shots to become the first visiting team this season to triumph at the PGE Arena Gdansk.
