Visitor accused of crystal meth smuggling bid.
A 34-year-old visitor tried to smuggle 3.8kg of crystal meth through the Dubai International Airport, a court heard on Sunday. The man from Iran has been charged with smuggling of narcotics by the Court of First Instance.
He was arrested in June by the airport customs inspection officers, allegedly with 3.8kg of crystal meth carefully hidden in his baggage. He admitted during the investigation that he tried to smuggle the drugs, claiming he did not know its kind. He claimed he was given the quantity by a compatriot in Iran to deliver it to someone in Malaysia. He was offered five million Iranian tomans for the job when he reach back in Iran after the delivery of drugs.
A customs inspection officer said that the defendant raised the suspicions of the officials at the Terminal 2 of the airport as he looked agitated and in a hurry to reach the inspection point. The scanning of the defendant's baggage showed an unusual density in the sides of his bags. When they searched his baggage a transparent substance believed to be crystal meth was found stuffed in the sides.
The Criminal Lab report showed that the substance seized from the accused was crystal meth and it weighed 3.8kg.
