Four concerts are scheduled in the coming week at the University of Oregon School of Music, 961 E. 18th Ave.

Today, Beall Hall
Tuba virtuoso Sam Pilafian, who is on campus as a visiting professor, will join members of the UO jazz faculty tonight to re-create several titles from Miles Davis' legendary `Birth of the Cool' recording.
The Faculty Artist Series concert will feature nine musicians and such Davis tunes as `Boplicity,' `Israel' and `Moon Dreams,' plus selections from Bob Belden's `Treasure Island' recording.
Pilafian is professor of tuba at Arizona State University and is a founding member of the internationally renowned Empire Brass Quintet.
UO faculty performers include Steve Owen and Idit Shner, woodwinds; Joseph Berger, horn; Tim Leopold, trumpet; Jeff Williams, trombone; Toby Koenigsberg, piano; Jason Palmer, drums; and Tyler Abbott, bass.
The recital begins at 8 p.m. today in Beall Concert Hall. Tickets are $9 at the door, $5 for students and senior citizens.
Student chamber music
Saturday, Beall Hall
A variety of student ensembles will give a free concert Saturday - including strings, woodwinds, brass, the Rogue Valley Tuba Quartet and the popular men's a cappella group, On the Rocks.
The concert is composed of chamber groups coached by visiting professor Sam Pilafian during his weeklong residency at UO.
The concert is at 3 p.m. Saturday in Beall Hall.
Student voice and piano recital
Wednesday, Beall Hall
Voice majors and pianists from the music school will perform art songs on Wednesday.
The singers in the `Poetry in Song' recital are graduate and undergraduate students of voice faculty members Ann Tedards, Eric Mentzel, Charles Turley and Milagro Vargas.
The recital is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Beall Hall. Admission is free.
Feb. 23, Beall Hall
Flute professor Nancy Andrew, along will several faculty colleagues, next week will perform mostly French music in a Faculty Artist Series recital.
The program includes `Sonata in A Major' by Jean-Pierre Guignon; `Trois Pieces pour Flute' by P.O. Ferroud; `Chanson et Badinerie' by Pierre Camus; `Le Merle Noir' by Olivier Messiaen; `Aubade' by Paul de Wailly; `The Chimney of the King' by Darius Milhaud; and `Pure Silver' by UO Professor Robert Kyr, featuring five flutists.
Other performers include clarinetist Wayne Bennett; oboist Amy Goeser Kolb; bassoonist Steve Vacchi; Joseph Berger, horn; harpsichordist Margret Gries; and pianist Nathalie Fortin.
The recital is at 8 p.m. Feb. 23 in Beall Concert Hall. Tickets are $9 at the door, $5 for students and senior citizens.
Sam Pilafian will perform a jazz program with members of the UO music faculty.
