Visit of Dr Gregory Nathaniel Taff at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
Dr. Gregory Nathaniel Taff during his visit in January at Environmental protection department, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, presented presentations based on its research experience in Latvia. The first topic of its presentation was "Assessing Forest and Landscape Changes in Eastern Europe". The speaker presented the changes in landscape, particularly in forest cover, in Eastern Europe Countries such as Latvia, Albania, and Romania after the crash of Soviet Union. The second presentation was more educative and its topic was "Reforestation, Landscape linking Pattern and Process". The researcher presented the basics of Geographical Information Systems, the usefulness of it to determine the changes in landscape; of identification of the factors which had influence on these changes,
and defined the methodology of research on improvement the remotely sensed image classification techniques. The landscape researcher define his interest "in how multiple stakeholder groups act at different geographic scales to affect the protection of ecological, cultural, and economic resources, particularly in protected landscapes". Dr. Gregory Nathaniel Taff was associated professors at University of Memphis (USA); currently he started his work at Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute.
