New DFA-RCO-Iloilo

Iloilo City, Iloilo (PIA) -- Ilonggos can get world-class consular service with last Friday's inauguration of the new Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)'s regional consular office (RCO) at Robinson's Place-Iloilo. Averaging 5,696 passports monthly in 2013 ranking it fifth most productive consular offices among the DFA's 19 RCOs, the agency's RCO-Iloilo had been located in a building at Yulo St., this city. Since Oct. 2011 when the DFA had signed an accord with Robinsons Land Corp.'s for the latter to host RCOs, five other DFA consular offices have opened in Robinson Malls in San Fernando, Pampanga; General Santos in North Cotabato; Lipa City in Batangas; Robinson's Galleria in Quezon City; and Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

Power Interruption

Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental (PNA) -- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has scheduled power interruptions in Negros Oriental this weekend as part of its annual preventive maintenance of its facilities. Today, Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, there will be power interruptions in parts of Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative (NORECO) II's franchise areas serviced by the substation in Tanjay City from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Amlan 50MVA transformer annual preventive maintenance. The NGCP will also replace today rotten poles and corroded suspension and strain insulators along the 69kV Amlan-Bindoy line and conduct vegetation clearing along the 69kV Bindoy-Guihulngan line. Areas affected by the power interruptions include Amlan and Pamplona towns and Tanjay City.

Dengue Monitored

Tacloban City, Leyte (PIA) -- The Department of Health (DoH)'s Dr. Carmen Garado said in a recent Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) meeting here that dengue, measles and chikungunya cases have increased across the region with Tacloban having the most number of cases. From Jan. - Feb. 18, 2014, 470 suspected cases of dengue fever with two deaths and 180 measles cases with two deaths were reported. Even if such cases have not yet reached epidemic levels, the DoH here is intensifying vector control measures like fumigation in many areas and community campaign on self-protection methods as well as measles immunization of children to prevent an outbreak.

OB-Gyne Mission

Catbalogan City, Samar (PIA) -- Some 20 physician surgeons with the group Kalusugan ng Kababaihang Pangkabayanan Inc. under Dr Agatonica Esparez-Arcales were in Catbalogan and Calbayog cities Feb.19-20, 2014 during which time they conducted 16 major surgeries and treated Samarnon outpatients. The group also brought with them four ultrasound machines to be used in medical consultations. Aside from performing surgeries and medical consultation, group members also held lectures on teenage pregnancy while barangay health workers and nutrition scholars were also given tips on pre-natal, breastfeeding and other child friendly practices at the Samar National School.

DOH Bidding

Cebu City, Cebu (PNA) -- Bidding for a P21-million project to repair some 60 health facilities in northern Cebu damaged by super typhoon Yolanda in November last year is set for March. Department of Health in Central Visayas (DoH -7) Health Emergency Management assistant coordinator Ruselle Gako said DOH-7 has received P21.030 million from the DOH central office last January to repair said damaged health facilities. A total of 107 typhoon-damaged health facilities in 15 towns and a city in northern Cebu need repairs. The P21.030 million is only for the first batch of 60 such damaged health facilities.
