Violent Begbie's big hits.

Trainspotting psycho Francis Begbie is set to unveil his version of Desert Island Discs to DJ Lauren Laverne.

Author Irvine Welsh, 54, has drawn up Begbie's top tunes for the memory tape slot on her BBC 6 Music radio show.

The Edinburgh writer - who is now based in the US - created the violent thug who was played by Robert Carlyle in the 1996 movie of his book.

Laverne revealed there was a back story to each of Begbie's tracks, although details of the songs have not been released.

The weekly memory tape feature is usually based on listeners' music compilations.

She tweeted: "Email received.

Sender: @WelshIrvine. Subject: Begbie's Desert Island Discs. This is going to be one amazing memory tape."

No date has yet been set for the broadcast.
