A KEEN kite surfer for a number of years, Vincent Fitzsimons had no experience working with yachts or sailing boats before he started a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in marine engineering at Coleg Llandrillo.

Since completing the course he has moved to Italy to become an engineer for a large yachting company.

"I wanted take advantage of the numerous well-paid jobs that exist around the world in the marine leisure industry, giving me the potential to travel the world by working on sailing yachts," he said.

"My main duties include the repair and rebuilding of engines, briefing of clients on boats' mechanical systems and emergency call outs for breakdowns. "My course at Coleg Llandrillo enabled me to develop a range of skills and qualifications which have been essential in securing my current position."
