Vimto loss after costs.

REDUNDANCY and closure costs have driven Haydock-based Vimto soft drinks and foods group Nichols into an interim loss.

A review led to the closure of its Stockport food packing plant and work switched to Haydock. But the shake-up cost pounds 3.99m, which wiped out profits for the six months to June 30 of pounds 1.8m, leading to a loss of pounds 2.17mcompared with the previous year's pounds 1.65mprofit. Sales were flat at pounds 47.8m.

The firm is famous for Vimto and its Sunkist brand.

Chairman John Nichols said full-year results would fit market expectations.
