Villanueva stuns Ong in PSC-Philta age group tennis.

Rafaella Villanueva displayed grit and confidence beyond her years as she stunned top seed Nikki Ong, 63, 64, yesterday to reach the girls' 18under finals in the fifth PSCPhilta National agegroup tennis tournament at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The 14yearold Villanueva, who donned the national colors in the firstever WTA Future Stars in Singapore, took everything Ong threw at her and broke serve twice in the first set. Villanueva pressed on in the second set and forged ahead at 43 with another service break to secure the upset victory.

A seventh grader at De La Salle Zobel, Villanueva played for the country in the Southeast Asian juniors and trained under famed Swiss coach Dominik Utzinger. She will next take on second seed Frances Santiago, who downed Colleen Sioson, 61, 62, in the other semifinal.
