Viewpoints: Tale of storm fireball fear.

Byline: Marion Smith Dryburgh Avenue Birchgrove Cardiff

IN answer to Ann, of Fairwater, my mother and my aunts used to tell me about this fireball whenever there was a thunderstorm. We lived in Ebbw Vale then and the valley experienced horrendous storms, still does, I think. Mum told me about the time when a fireball came through the open back door spinning several inches from the floor, went through the kitchen into thedining room and out through the open window.

The curtains were set alight, but they managed to put the flames out.

She and my aunties always opened front and back doors as soon as a storm started.

They called the fire ball a thunder bolt.
