Victim of crane collapse named.

A MAN who was killed when he was trapped under a fallen crane last week has been named as Richard Mark Thornton, of Longridge in Preston.

Mr Thornton, 46, was said to have died instantly when the mobile crane in Waver tree Technology Park buckled and collapsed on March 29.

Mr Thornton's wife, Sandra, and daughters Cheryl and Sophie are thought to have visited the site at SHS International on Waver tree Boulevard this week with other family members to lay flowers in his memory.

A post mortem revealed he died of multiple injuries and an inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned until July 4.

Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, the third fatal crane accident in the city this year.
