Vicar and dad... a perfect combination.

DAD-OF-TWO Rev Dominic Black finds being a vicar and a dad an ideal combination.

At the Holy Trinity Church in North Ormesby he says getting children involved is a priority.

That's why this year's Easter activities offer lots for the kids, both his own and those of the local parish.

There's plenty to keep Dominic busy over the holiday but he will still find time on Easter Sunday for a special family meal and swapping chocolate eggs with wife Heather and their sons Leo, six, and Benedict, four.

"In Holy Week there are services just about every day, the most intense from Thursday to Easter Sunday," he says.

This year they have something quite unusual planned - the church will be serving a Passover meal on Maundy Thursday. "We have been looking at other religions like Judaism, the roots of Christianity, and it is much more family orientated in the way it is celebrated.

"One thing about the Passover meal is that there are parts for children, they are not just spectating, they get to ask questions, like why do we do this and why do we remember?" At Holy Trinity they will be serving chicken casserole and it promises to be a big event, and there's lots more to follow.

"People often think of Christmas as the big one but Easter is the principal Christian festival," says Dominic.

A children's workshop on Good Friday teaches the Easter story as they build an Easter garden, do crafts, have story telling and make a cross of flowers.

Youngsters also enjoy the excitement of the beginning of the Easter Vigil, a candlelit service on Easter Eve.

Dominic says: "On Easter Sunday the service is joyful and all the children join in with musical instruments handed out."

While the Easter egg hunt that follows is always popular.
