Veteran Particle Physicist Prof. Kamaluddin Ahmed passes away.
Born in Delhi in 1939 he did his Ph.D from London University in 1966 and served many national organizations on reputable positions.
Joining Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) in 1962, he remained associated with Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology (PINSTECH) till 1967.
Then he joined Quaid-e-Azam University in December 1967 as Associate Professor and retired from the same institute as Meritorious Professor on April 1999.
After this he remained associated with many distinguished institutes on very important posts. He served COMSATS as Advisor on Physics from 2002 to 2013 where he established Center for Quantum Physics. From 2001 to 2002 he worked as Director General Hamdard University Islamabad Campus and he also remained executive and academic head of Islamabad and Karachi Campus.
He was senior research associate member of The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (AS-ICTP), Italy from 1991-1996 and was awarded Pride of Performance by Government of Pakistan in 2001 for his excellence in science and technology. He was also fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Hamid Saleem, Director General NCP has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Prof. Kamaluddin Ahmed. He said that the death of Prof. Kamaluddin Ahmed has created an irreparable vacuum in scientific community of Pakistan. His contributions and devotion for science promotion in the country will always be remembered.
