Veteran's Day SuperLotto Jackpot Hits $40 Million.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1998--Lottery officials announced today that the estimated SuperLotto jackpot for Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, is $40 million.

"This is the second largest jackpot offered by any single state lottery in the nation," said Lottery Chief Deputy Director Gene Balonon. "Higher jackpots mean higher sales and therefore higher revenues to public schools."

A single jackpot winner of $40 million would receive payments beginning at approximately $1,000,000 and ending at about $2,040,000 over 26 years or the estimated cash value which is roughly estimated at half the jackpot. With at least 34% of all Lottery sales going to eduction, this jackpot (which has rolled 5 times) will generate more than $21 million for education.

In June 1994, Augustine Chiarenza of Lompoc, Calif. made Lottery history when he became the record-breaking highest individual jackpot winner of $51.6 million.

SuperLotto can be played at approximately 19,000 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players can purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
