Veronis Suhler Stevenson to acquire Cambium Learning.

Private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson (VSS; New York) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Cambium Learning, Inc. (Natick, MA), an education company that provides research-based instructional materials, services and technology for literacy and mathematics for the intervention segment, Pre-K-12 "at-risk" and special student populations, from investment firm J.H. Whitney & Co. (New Canaan, CT). No terms of the deal were given.

Established in 2003, Cambium is the largest U.S. education company focusing on the serving the needs of at-risk and special student populations. Customers include school districts, principals, Title I and curriculum directors, education associations and educators. The company had 2006 revenue over $100 million.

VSS partner Scott Troeller said the intervention segment is "one of the most attractive sectors of the education market and we are thrilled to be partnering with such an accomplished management team ... what they've accomplished with Cambium in only four years is truly impressive."
