Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ), a provider of broadband and other wireline and wireless communications, announced on Tuesday (26 August) that the company has been authorised to offer its FiOS TV services in the Dutchess county village of Fishkill, New York, USA.

Verizon's FiOS TV service is delivered over a fibre-optic network straight to customers' homes. It offers a collection of all-digital programming, up to 100 high-definition (HD) channels in the New York market, and access to over 11,000 video-on-demand (VOD) titles, 70% of which are free. In addition to FiOS TV, Verizon's fibre network also delivers Internet download speeds of up to 50 Mb/s and upload speeds of up to 20 Mb/s, as well as high-quality voice service.

This new franchise agreement reportedly brings to 128 the total number of New York municipalities that have approved video franchises for Verizon.

The franchise agreement between Verizon and Fishkill is subject to review by the New York State Public Service Commission, the company said.
