INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

US wireless network operator Verizon Wireless (Verizon), a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) and Vodafone (NYSE:VOD), has announced the expansion of its Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) third generation (3G) wide-area network to cover over 95% of the New York Metro area population in the US.

According to the company, the expanded network creates coverage that includes: southern and eastern Brooklyn and central Queens in New York; Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island's North Shore; as well as northern Passaic County, northern and western portions of Morris County, southeastern Sussex County and Hunterdon County in New Jersey, enabling its BroadbandAccess and V CAST services. BroadbandAccess will provide wireless access with average speeds of 400-700kb/s, while V CAST is a wireless broadband multimedia service for consumers, offering music, videos and 3D games on demand.

BroadbandAccess is available for USD79.99 a month with a new one- or two-year customer agreement. Customers with a V CAST Music-enabled handset and a calling plan can download songs onto their phone for USD1.99 per song plus airtime, download music to their PC for USD0.99, and transfer their existing compatible digital music collection to their V CAST Music-enabled handset or memory card at no charge from their PC.
