Verity Signs Agreement with DOCUMENTUM, Extending OEM Contract to 2001; DOCUMENTUM License Includes Verity Search Engine and International Language Support.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1998--Verity, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRTY), a leading provider of knowledge retrieval solutions for the enterprise and Internet, today announced that it has extended its OEM relationship with DOCUMENTUM, Inc. (NASDAQ:DCTM), a recognized leader in enterprise document and knowledge management solutions for client/server and Web environments.

Under the terms of the amended agreement, DOCUMENTUM has the right to continue to include Verity's award winning search engine (Verity Developer Kit) in its Enterprise Document Management System (EDMS) to the year 2001. Verity also announced that DOCUMENTUM is expanding its relationship with Verity to include licensing international language support for Asian languages, including Japanese, Chinese (simplified and traditional) and Korean.

DOCUMENTUM incorporates the Verity Developer Kit (VDK), an advanced full -text search and retrieval engine, as part of its DocPage Server, the heart of DOCUMENTUM's EDMS. DOCUMENTUM has added support for Kanji in DocPage Server version 3.1.5J, with other languages to follow.

The Verity Developer Kit

The Verity Developer Kit is a customizable and cross-platform indexing, search and retrieval system designed to add search functionality to a broad range of applications. It includes a full-featured query language and a broad range of facilities, including full text and metadata search, concept-based search (Topics(R)), results list clustering, term highlighting, relevancy ranking, document summarization and query by example. More than two hundred leading commercial application vendors currently use the Verity Developer Kit.
