Verio Introduces Latest Applications, Enhanced Technologies to New Version of Virtualized Hosting Solution.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Verio Inc., a leading provider of hosting and managed services, today unveiled the third generation of its FreeBSD-based Virtual Private Server solution (VPS v3), updated with improved server efficiency and support for the newest technologies. In its latest version of the VPS, Verio has introduced updates to core applications and enhanced support for a variety of technologies that make the hosting solution ideal for businesses with limited IT staff resources, as well as for developer outfits.
Verio VPS is a high-value hosted solution that offers end-users a fully isolated system with all the functionality of a dedicated server in a virtualized and fully managed environment. Verio manages all security updates and backups and offers all VPS customers free live support. Additionally, customers have access to the vinstall tool, which provides the ability to readily add programs or utilities to their virtual private server. A library of preconfigured vinstalls places a number of applications at the user's fingertips, such as MySQL and Urchin web analytics software, without the need for manual configuration.
VPS customers and end-users span a variety of industries and use the VPS for a diverse range of purposes, such as to host a Web site or intranet, to run a CRM application or to host a custom development environment. Johannes Peschko, managing director of correspondent.tv ltd, a web-based service that links TV correspondents with television service providers in foreign countries, such as camera crews, said, "Verio's VPS v3 enabled the correspondent.tv Web site to grow into a more dynamic, feature-rich site that allows us to better serve our customers, including news reporters and television service providers. We have been working with Verio and testing the enhanced platform for several weeks now, and Verio has really listened to our requirements as a customer."
"By building on the dedicated-like features of VPS, such as privacy and managed services, while maintaining the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of the solution, this VPS version enables customers to more easily manage and scale their service to match business needs and growth," said Dennis Boyle, chief operating officer for Verio. "As the inventor of VPS technology, Verio relied on its 10 years of experience in the virtual hosting space, plus customer input, to offer the latest enhancements to businesses, as well as developer communities."
With the latest plans, users will also enjoy a larger amount of disk space. For example, the VPS v3 1000 plan gives users 20 GBs of disk space - up from 14 GBs with the previous plan. Other improved features include an upgrade of the operating system to FreeBSD 6.0, including support for the latest Java implementations on the VPS v3 2000; Apache 2.2.3 comes installed on VPS v3 for faster performance; PHP 5.1.5 adds several new extensions and improved support for popular technologies such as XML, SOAP and MySQL and others, as well as support for object oriented programming. With VPS v3, MySQL performs faster and with better functionality than other VPS solutions.
Additionally, FreeBSD VPS v3 includes Sendmail RBL (real-time blacklist), the easiest way to block a majority of spammers. Since the list is maintained by another party, Sendmail RBL considerably reduces the effort required by small businesses to maintain protection from known spam offenders.
The new FreeBSD VPS v3 is available immediately with a retail price starting at $89.95 USD (VPS v3 Basic), with prices increasing depending on the hosting solution chosen. The solution is available to customers and partners worldwide, including resellers and wholesale partners.
