VeriSign Hires Internationally Recognized Security Expert to Help Drive Industry Standards

20-Year Industry Veteran, Warwick Ford, Joins VeriSign; Bolsters Company's
 Leadership Position in Certification Authority Market

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- VeriSign, Inc., the leading provider of digital authentication products and services for trusted electronic commerce, announced that Warwick Ford, B.E., M.E., Dip. Comp. Sc., Ph.D., has joined the company as Director of Advanced Technology. Ford's hire is a strategic step for VeriSign in strengthening its leadership position in the certification authority market. In this new role, Ford will be responsible for driving industry standards, strategic planning of technology and technical consulting for VeriSign clients. Ford will be based in VeriSign's East Coast operations facility in Cambridge, MA.

Previously, Ford was with Nortel Secure Networks as Senior Manager, Security Technology, where he led product planning and security architecture design for Nortel's Entrust cryptographic products. He has actively participated in standardization work in ISO/IEC, ITU, IETF and ANSI X9. As part of his work with standards bodies, he led the development of the X.509 Version 3 certificate standard in ISO/IEC/ITU and ANSI, and is co-chair of the Internet IETF public-key infrastructure (PKIX) working group. In addition, Ford has published and taught extensively, and is author of the 1994 Prentice-Hall book "Computer Communications Security: Principles, Standard Protocols and Techniques."
