Venezuela looms over Lavrov-Pompeo meet.
dpa Stockholm Venezuela's long-running crisis loomed over private talks between the top diplomats from Russia and the US on Monday on the sidelines of an Arctic Council meeting in northern Finland. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described his talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as constructive, according to televised comments made to reporters after the meeting. Lavrov also made reassurances that world leaders were not considering a "reckless military solution" to the Venezuelan crisis. He said a military intervention could be "catastrophic." With Venezuela's economy in ruins, Russia and the US blame each other for exacerbating the situation.
