NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-18 September 2003-Vattenfall offers weather derivative products(C)1994-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Swedish energy group Vattenfall said on Thursday (18 September) that it had begun to offer weather derivative products allowing its Nordic customers to hedge weather related risks.

"Providing companies and other customers with a means of protecting themselves against such risks also provides a business opportunity for us. The scheme will comprise a payment structure linked to a weather factor that can be clearly defined and measured, temperature for example," said Markus Hartwig, head of weather risk management at Vattenfall Supply & Trading.
