Vatican overturns Chaldean Patriarch.
In the January issue of Catholic Insight, Church in the World highlighted Chaldean Patriarch Louis Raphael I of Iraq whose flock is in disarray by the ISIS situation. He had ordered his priests to return to their parishes, unless they had received explicit permission to leave. He said that "priests must serve their people even when their ministry puts them in danger" (CatholicCulture.org, 9 January, 2015). However, the Vatican has lifted the suspension of Chaldean priests who fled Iraq after the Islamic State came to power. This was prompted by a petition to the Vatican by Chaldean Catholics in San Diego, who were being served by a Chaldean priest who had fled Iraq.
