This fourth anthology of stories and poems by authors aged 17 or under is to be welcomed. Subjects as diverse as bullying, dysfunctional families, early love find a place in the collection, indicating a social awareness that is startling. Inevitably, standards are uneven and it would be invidious to single out any particular item. Several of the stories have unexpected conclusions to give readers pause.

The poems revel in an enjoyment of words and the pictures that they create. The general seriousness of much of the material is notable, suggesting the difficulty that writing humorous material presents if it is to be successful. Potential entries for the 2010 anthology should reach the publisher by 31 May 2010. Anyone aged 17 or under can submit their work.
