Vans Skatepark Grand Opening Brings World-Class Skateboard Experience to Orlando in January; Vans' Eleventh Skatepark to Open January 12th.

Vans, Inc. (Nasdaq:VANS), the leading worldwide brand for Core Sports(TM), announced today that it will open its eleventh U.S.-based Vans Skatepark in Orlando at the Festival Bay at International Drive on January 12.

The 61,000 square foot Vans Skatepark offers both indoor and outdoor skating and will open to a two-day celebration with a private media preview on January 11 prior to doors opening to the public the following day. Several of Vans' top professional riders including Tony Alva, Willy Santos, Omar Hassan, Neal Hendrix and Floridian Mike Frazier as well BMX rider Rick Thorne and Cory Nastazio will be on hand to meet and skate with fans at the grand opening.

Several professional skaters served as consultants to help create a skatepark specifically-tailored to the needs of riders of all skill levels and to cater to the tastes of Orlando riders. The Vans Skatepark's varied riding areas and obstacles range from popular skatepark staples to innovative and unique additions to challenge a variety of rider styles and skill levels:
-- "The Doe Boy" -- an above ground bowl inspired by old school pools for the
many pool skaters in central Florida. Doe Boy reaches four, five and eight-foot
depths in different areas

-- 31,000-square-foot indoor wood street course designed for beginner to
advanced skaters featuring ramps surfaced in Finland Birch

-- 40-foot competition-size vert ramp featuring 10.8 transitions

-- 4-foot mini-vert ramp

-- 11,000-sq.-foot outdoor concrete street course with many street features and
small bowls

-- Mezzanine area for viewing

-- Lounge Area including:

-- Full line retail store and pro shop

-- Kiosks connecting to

-- Television broadcasting Vans Triple Crown(TM) Series footage

-- Sports wall dedicated to the Vans Triple Crown(TM) Series

Session times are divided into two-hour blocks between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Skaters will pay between $11 and $14 a session, and may purchase a one-year membership for $50 that allows them to skate at a discounted session price, between $7 to $9, depending on the time of day. BMX riding is available at designated times.

Vans has also developed several programs to reach out to the community and encourage kids to participate in safe after-school activities, such as skate clinics. Vans encourages local schools to get involved in the after-school activity crusade by offering discounted session prices with school club memberships. Vans also rewards scholastic achievement by offering $1 off session prices for every "A" on a report card.

Festival Bay at International Drive, a Belz Enterprises development, is located at the intersection of I-4 and the Florida Turnpike and just across from Universal Studios. The Vans Skatepark, Ron Jon Surf Shop, and For Your Entertainment are included in the rollout of Phase II, joining original anchor tenants Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and Cinemark Orlando Tinseltown Theatre which opened in spring 2000. Festival Bay at International Drive will serve a region visited by more than 15 million shoppers each year, many of whom are part of Orlando's growing, affluent million-plus permanent population. Many more are among the 42.6 million tourists who visit Orlando annually.

The Vans Skatepark's design and construction is a collaborative effort between Vans, Percy Cheng of Perkowitz & Ruth Architects, Rick Carje of RCMC, G.R. Walton General Contractors, Inc., Dave Duncan of Dave Duncan Designs and Jack Murphy of Murphy Productions.

Vans currently operates ten Skateparks located in Orange, CA, Bakersfield, CA, Ontario, CA, Woodbridge, VA, Milpitas, CA, Houston, TX, Moorestown, NJ (outside Philadelphia), Westminster, CO (outside of Denver), Phoenix, AZ, and Buford, GA (outside Atlanta). Each facility is unique in size, layout and design of the parks' skateable features and pools. The Vans Skatepark in Ontario, CA also includes an indoor BMX street course and an outdoor dirt jumping area. In addition to the Orlando location, an additional Vans Skatepark is scheduled to open in Detroit, MI, in May 2002.
