Van Horne, Harold Bircham UE: 21 March 1914-23 April 2010.

Members of the Chilliwack Branch of the UELAC were deeply saddened by the death of long-time member, Bircham Van Home UE, just nine short months after his dear wife, Mary. Born to parents, Ralph and Edna Van Horne, Bircham grew up in Vancouver and attended the University of British Columbia where he earned a Bachelor of Agriculture Science. He worked in the Agricultural Science Field for a time and then returned to university to obtain a teaching degree.

In 1950, Bircham began teaching at Chilliwack Junior High School and retired from Chilliwack Senior High School in 1976.

Bircham was a man of many diverse talents. He was a talented percussionist and played in numerous bands, orchestras and symphonies. In fact, he was still playing at the age of 94! He was an active and committed environmentalist, an avid bird-watcher and a member of the Chilliwack Field Naturalists. Other "gifts of service" to his community included; Chilliwack Historical Society, Chilliwack Arts Council, Chilliwack Horticultural Society, Chilliwack Retired Teachers, Probus Club, Chilliwack Branch of the UELAC--serving on its Leadership Team, and a long-time faithful member of his church, St. Thomas Anglican Church, in Chilliwack.

Bircham is survived by his son, Phillip Van Horne UE. (Loyalist ancestor: Cornelius Van Home UE).
