Valmore Mathieu.

Valmore L. Mathieu, 86Grafton - Valmore L. Mathieu, 86, passed away December 27, 2014 following a period of declining health. He is survived by his sons Daniel Mathieu and his wife Laurie and Francis Mathieu and his wife Janet, daughters Marlene L'Heureux and her husband Ronald and Sharon Laramee and her husband Paul, his brother Robert Mathieu and his wife Christine, grandchildren Adam, Eric, Megan, Kevin, Michael, Elizabeth, Brian, Amy, Nicole, Michelle and Brittany, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife Margaret (Lacey) Mathieu. Val was born May 11, 1928 in Worcester, son of the late Rose (Dufault) and Valmore J. Mathieu. He was predeceased by his daughter Ann Marie and brother Raymond Mathieu and his wife Rena. For several years he worked as an Inspector at Wyman Gordon and in 1958 began his career as a Police Officer with the Grafton Police Department. Val was a part of Grafton Police Department history, having been one of the first members of the town's first full time department and also among its first to be promoted to Sergeant. He served the town on the police department until retiring from there in 1970. For Val his work as a police officer truly defined him, and his pride and loyalty to the Grafton Police Department never faded. Summers in New England for Val would often lead him to his cottage in York, Maine near Nubble Lighthouse, and later in life he spent time at his home in Jupiter, Florida before returning to New England recently to be near his family. Val always kept his family at his center, treasuring the time he had with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent time as a member of the Grafton Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, The Central Massachusetts Police Association, Worcester Deputy Sherriff's Association and was a founding member back in the late 1950's with the Grafton Hot Rod Club. His fellow officers and friends never knew when the next practical joke from Val might have been coming, and he was always quick to share a story with friends old and new. In lieu of flowers his family asks you to honor Val with donations to The Grafton Police Association 28 Providence Road Grafton, MA 01519 or the Massachusetts Brain Injury Association 30 Lyman St. Suite 10 Westborough, MA 01581 or online at www.biama.org.
