VULCAN CHEMICALS WICHITA PLANT HITS THREE YEAR MARK
 WITHOUT A LOST-TIME ACCIDENT
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Vulcan Chemicals Wichita plant has achieved a safety milestone, surpassing three years without a lost-time accident.
Vulcan plant manager Paul Tobia said that translates into more than 3 million man hours worked without an employee having to take time off due to injury.
"Commitment to our Chemical Product Responsibility program is key to our safety achievements," said Tobia. "The daily commitment to safety from our employees and management, as well as participation in our 'Keys for Life' process, is how we have achieved this safety record."
"This record should be a source of tremendous pride for each employee of the Wichita plant," said Vulcan Chemicals President Mike Ferris in a message to Vulcan personnel. "Employees, dedicated to quality, are the reason Vulcan Chemicals has established a long term trend toward a safer workplace."
Vulcan also adheres to the Chemical Manufacturers Association's Responsible Care program, which aims to improve the health, safety and environmental performance of all U.S. chemical companies.
The company will present an award to its employees commemorating the record in a ceremony later this month.
Vulcan Chemicals, a division of Vulcan Materials Company, is a major producer of basic industrial chemicals including chlorine, caustic soda and chlorinated organic chemicals. Vulcan's Wichita plant is one of three chemical facilities operated by Vulcan, the others located in Geismar, La. and Port Edwards, Wis.
