VTECH GETS FCC APPROVAL FOR FIRST 900 MHZ DIGITAL CORDLESS PHONE (Product Announcement)

VTECH GETS FCC APPROVAL FOR FIRST 900 MHZ DIGITAL CORDLESS PHONE
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, VTECH Communications today announced the FCC has granted both part 68 and part 15 authorization to VTECH's new TROPEZ 900DX Digital cordless phone. Steve Johnson, president of VTECH Communications, said that the process has been long, but routine. "900 Digital technology has lengthened the certification time, but I am pleased FCC approval had come soon enough for distribution in the first quarter."
The company has been producing the entire TROPEZ phone line from its plant in Dongguan, China, for several weeks in anticipation of FCC approval, and can now officially accept orders.
The TROPEZ 900DX will retail for $299(U.S.). Small quantities of the product will be available late December of 1991, with volume shipments beginning in January of 1992.
Originally introduced at the Chicago Consumer Electronics Show last June, the TROPEZ 900DX is the first digital extended range cordless phone on the market that operates on the 900 MHz band. In addition, the new phone offers significant enhancements in security, clarity and range.
To provide the user with a completely secure phone line, the TROPEZ 900DX randomly scrambles the digital transmission and automatically selects one of more than 65,000 possible digital security codes each time the handset is placed in the base unit.
TROPEZ' automatic 20-channel select feature ensures line availability and clarity. At present, most high-end cordless phones offer a maximum of 10-channel select. A unique Digital Transmission Format (DTF) gives the TROPEZ 900DX extremely high immunity to line noise. If interference does occur, the phone automatically switches to a clear channel.
The TROPEZ 900DX also offers extended communications range -- five to 10 times regular cordless phones, and up to 4.5 hours of continuous talk time. A special light on the handset indicates out-of-range, preventing users from suddenly, unexpectedly losing the connection once they go beyond the range limits.
Other standard features include auto-redial, 10-number programmable memory, user-selectable ring types, two-way paging, speakerphone and intercom.
The company will be exhibiting at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Jan. 9-12, Hilton booth 5135. VTECH Communications is headquartered at 8770 SW Nimbus Ave., Beaverton, OR 97005, 800-624-5688; FAX: 503-644-9887.
