 VSDA TO SPONSOR VIDEO STORE VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE
 MOORESTOWN, N.J., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- A major, non-partisan voter


registration campaign using video stores to distribute registration information will be launched nationwide in August by the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA).
 The campaign, called the "Video Store Voter Registration Drive," is the first national voter registration effort that uses familiar neighborhood locations, such as video stores, to reach potential voters.
 "The Video Store Voter Registration Drive is a way for our industry to promote one of the most important parts of our democracy -- voting," said VSDA national board member Mitch Lowe, the pioneer of a 1990 California registration drive that served as a model for the VSDA effort.
 Lowe, who owns a Mill Valley, Calif., video store, and Mitch Braff, a San Francisco-based film producer, worked with the California Office of Elections and the state's Democratic and Republican parties to place approximately 400 counter displays in independent video stores and chain outlets across the state. Within the first week, 200 stores re-ordered voter registration forms, and overall more than 15,000 voter registration forms were distributed.
 The campaign is supported by a multi-media advertising effort designed to drive consumers to video stores. To date, VSDA has received support from the League of Women Voters, Vote America, Rock the Vote, the National Association of Secretaries of State, federal and state legislators, both the Democratic and Republican parties, major media and a number of sports and entertainment celebrities.
 VSDA is providing members countertop displays that hold actual registration forms for states that allow registration by mail, and instructions on how to register for states that prohibit mail-in registration.
