VOUGHT AIRCRAFT COMPANY EMERGES FROM LTV SALE
 DALLAS, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- A well-known name in aviation

history -- Vought Aircraft Company -- reemerged today with completion of the sale of the former Aircraft Division of LTV Aerospace and Defense to The Carlyle Group and Northrop Corporation.
The second oldest continuous producer of military aircraft in the United States, Vought will operate autonomously under ownership of The Carlyle Group. The new company's top officers are Frank Carlucci, chairman of the board, and Gordon Williams, president and chief executive officer.
"We are very excited about our emergence as Vought Aircraft. It's a name that has been on the forefront of aviation technology since the days of the Wright brothers. Going forward we expect to continue the Vought tradition of quality, innovation, industry leadership, and customer commitment," stated Williams.
Throughout its history, the Vought name has been synonymous with aviation firsts -- from the VE-7 Bluebird, the first joint service trainer, to the famous F4U and A-7 Corsairs -- and many one-of-a-kind and experimental aircraft.
"That heritage of aircraft innovation, coupled with the integrity and strength of our people, positions us well for the future. Vought will focus on quality, being competitive and growing our business. We already have a good mix of military and commercial work and we expect that our reputation as a preferred major subcontractor will continue," added Williams.
Vought Aircraft currently employs approximately 9,000 people at its Dallas-area facilities.
Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Vought Aircraft Company is a major manufacturer for military and commercial aircraft. The company's current programs include substantial subcontract work on two of the United States Air Force's most advanced aircraft -- the B-2 stealth bomber and the C-17 airlifter -- and major subassembly production for Boeing 747, 757 and 767 airliners and Canadair Regional Jets.
