VOLVO GM HEAVY TRUCK SELECTS MICHIGAN NON-CARRIER LOGISTICS COMPANY
 FOR EXCLUSIVE TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT SERVICES
DETROIT, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move that will allow it to further concentrate on its core business, Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corporation today announced an agreement that names LogiCorp, Inc. the exclusive provider of transportation management services for the heavy- duty truck manufacturer.
Under the terms of the contract, LogiCorp, of West Bloomfield, Mich., will provide worldwide freight logistics management of Volvo GM Heavy Truck's inbound and outbound shipments of materials, components and products. Volvo GM Heavy Truck operates truck-assembly, fabrication and stamping plants in Virginia and Ohio, with six parts distribution centers and 60 parts and service affiliates throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Volvo GM Heavy Truck is a joint venture between Volvo and General Motors Corporation that began operations in January 1988. Today, Volvo GM Heavy Truck is headquartered in Greensboro, N.C., and has 3,500 employees. It is the nation's third-largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer with 1991 sales of $1.2 billion. The company manufactures Class 8 vehicles carrying the WHITEGMC nameplates, and Class 7 and Class 8 tractors and trucks under the VOLVO brandname.
LogiCorp uses data-intensive logistics analysis to seek continual improvement in its shipper-clients' freight portfolios. By matching client needs and combined-volume buying influence with the best-choice solutions offered by truck, rail, air and ocean carriers worldwide, LogiCorp gives manufacturers an objective alternative to carrier-owned logistics companies. The company acts as an adjunct to its clients' internal staff, or can offer stand-alone, turn-key services. LogiCorp serves manufacturers in the automotive, healthcare, furniture and industrial materials field.
