VOLKSWAGEN TO DISPLAY ITS CITY CAR OF THE FUTURE IN U.S.
 FOR FIRST TIME IN DETROIT
Volkswagen's Chico concept vehicle, a hybrid-powered urban prototype, will be shown for the first time in North America at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 178-horsepower Corrado SLC, the first production vehicle in the U.S. to house VW's award-winning, narrow-angle six-cylinder engine (VR6), will also be displayed along with the new EuroVan, the long-awaited, front-wheel- drive replacement for the historic Vanagon.
In the tradition of Volkswagen, the Chico is designed to be a safe, economical and space-efficient city car of the future. It is equipped with an environmentally friendly hybrid drivetrain that features constant-demand, automatic switchover between conventional and electric power in response to speed and throttle pressure. The Chico was a major attraction at the Frankfurt and Tokyo auto shows last year. Details on this car will be announced at a news conference to be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11:10 a.m.
