VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA INTRODUCES AN ELECTRONIC PARTS CATALOG
 FOR VOLKSWAGEN AND AUDI DEALERS
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Volkswagen of America, Inc., in conjunction with its dealer computer services subsidiary, V-Crest Systems, has introduced a new high-tech computerized parts catalog.
ETKA, a German acronym for electronic parts catalog, replaces the parts microfiche system and promises to increase customer service and to provide dealers with a competitive edge.
"ETKA is the natural evolution of a parts information system," said Ulrich Fahrun, vice president of VWoA's Corporate Parts and Information Organization. "Communication of parts data has moved from an extensive paper catalog to a microfiche system to this state-of-the-art ETKA system."
The ETKA program provides parts information through a high- performance 386 33 MHZ PC equipped with a 350-megabyte hard drive. A high-resolution 19-inch screen more than doubles the viewing space of the average personal computer terminal.
The VW and Audi parts assortment, already exceeding 100,000 different parts, is expected to increase by 30 percent by the end of the decade. The ETKA system can accommodate this expanding parts catalog with great accuracy and efficiency.
Finding the part number faster and the printing of the parts list provides service technicians with quicker, more accurate parts service. User-friendly menus, monthly updates and low price all add up to cost savings for dealers.
A recent study found that ETKA can save up to 1.5 hours per day compared to a microfiche system.
"Customer satisfaction is the paramount goal for our dealers," said Juergen Hermann, Parts Program manager for Volkswagen of America. "ETKA is a significant tool to help them accomplish their goal by simplifying and streamlining the parts service process."
