VOICE OF THE PEOPLE: Paying for hope.

ANOTHER scandal of the 21st Century NHS is that doctors do not have the drugs they need to make sick people better.

Which is why Ms Hewitt should allow wonder drug Erbitux to be prescribed on the NHS despite its pounds 11,500 cost.

There is the argument that with ever more expensive treatments coming on to the market an under-resourced health service cannot afford them all.

Yet Ms Hewitt is always telling us how WELL-resourced the NHS is under this Government.

And to understand the value of this drug she only has to read the moving video diary of cancer victim Margaret Hurrell in The People today.

Erbitux did not save Margaret's life, but it made her well enough to enjoy an extra 11 months of it with her loving family.

And you cannot put a price tag on that.
