VOICE OF THE DAILY Mirror: Blair must get results.

THE Prime Minister got one thing right yesterday as he aggressively defended his refusal to name the day: the public is heartily sick of the whole issue.

But if Mr Blair is to reinvigorate his authority over a nervous nation and an increasingly bolshy Parliamentary party, he needs to start delivering results - and fast.

He has vowed to steam ahead with a sweeping reform programme, but a botched reshuffle that left a badly holed Patricia Hewitt in charge of health - one of the central planks to those reforms - sends mixed signals at best.

Tony Blair has redrawn the British political landscape in the past nine years, pushing both Left and Right extremes to the margins.

Yet the true test of Blairism comes now, when he has to face down his critics inside and outside the Labour Party and restore trust that he remains the right man for the job.

Results, not rhetoric, are needed now more than ever.
