VITAL HEART SYSTEMS ISSUED NEW PATENT

NEW ORLEANS, La., Nov. 17 ~PRNewswire~ -- Vital Heart Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VHRT), announced today from the 65th Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association that it received approval of its patent application for proprietary software calculations used in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD). This brings the total U.S. patents held by the company to 13 with one patent pending, two European patents are also held with three patents pending.
The new patent applies to the technology at the core of variance cardiography, which allows for greater accuracy in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The standard resting and stress ECG instruments currently available provide only low resolution waveforms. The variance cardiograph, with high resolution capability, gathers a tenfold increase in data and processes it to produce an index and pictoral graph for the physician's diagnosis of coronary artery disease.
"This is a significant step forward in Vital Heart Systems' plan to protect its intellectual property. Our ownership of this technology places the company in a unique position to develop and market innovative medical devices to improve patient outcomes and reduce health care costs," said David L. Printy, chairman, president and CEO.
Vital Heart Systems, Inc. with offices in Beverly, Mass., and Minneapolis, manufactures and markets the variance cardiograph, a non- invasive, stress-free, diagnostic instrument to aid physicians in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The stock of Vital Heart Systems, Inc. is traded on the over-the-counter market under the NASDAQ symbol VHRT.
