VITAL HEART SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT REALIGNMENT

MINNEAPOLIS/BOSTON, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Vital Heart Systems (NASDAQ: VHRT) today announced a realignment of senior management. David L. Printy has resigned from his position as president and CEO, while retaining his position as chairman of the board. John F. Thero, the company's chief financial officer, has been appointed acting president and CEO.
Printy was appointed chairman of the board in July of 1990 and president and CEO in October of 1990 to manage product development and secure financing for product introduction. Printy is credited with the closing of a private equity placement in January, 1992, establishing a number of key corporate alliances and the recent commercial introduction of the company's first product. With these original goals completed, Printy will assist the company in securing additional financing and managing the strategic relationship with Digital Equipment Corporation.
Thero emphasized, "The company is focusing all of its attention on financing, sales and product development. The company is also taking a variety of steps to cut costs. The entire management team of Vital Heart Systems is working together to move the company forward." Thero added, "Many positive steps were taken in the past year to validate the effectiveness of the variance cardiograph(TM) and to establish strong references."
Cardiovascular disease remains the major cause of death in the United States. The variance cardiograph provides an excellent opportunity to improve patient outcomes while reducing health care costs. Physicians who have purchased the variance cardiograph are extremely pleased with its results.
Vital Heart Systems, Inc., with headquarters in Beverly, Mass., develops and markets variance cardiograph, a non-invasive, stress-free, diagnostic instrument to aid physicians in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The stock of Vital Heart Systems, Inc. is traded on the over-the-counter market under the NASDAQ symbol VHRT.
