VISTA CHEMICAL COMPANY COMMITS TO DETERGENT ALKYLATE BUSINESS

 BALTIMORE, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Vista Chemical Company announced today that it has signed contracts with UOP, Inc., of Des Plaines, Ill., and Litwin Engineers and Contractors, Inc., of Houston, for detailed engineering for a $100 million project that will reduce operating costs at its Baltimore detergent alkylate facility.
 "Vista is making a significant commitment to its detergent alkylate business and the Baltimore plant with this expenditure," says Bruce Larsen, president, Surfactants and Specialties, Vista. "With completion of this project, Baltimore's position as a world-class facility and Vista's continued competitiveness will be ensured."
 UOP will supply process technology and Litwin will complete the engineering designs. The six- to nine-month PACOL(R) engineering study includes selecting major equipment, doing detailed process engineering work and securing environmental operating permits.
 Houston-based Vista Chemical Company is the largest producer of biodegradable detergent alkylate in the United States with current capacity of more than 500 million pounds at its Baltimore and Lake Charles, La., facilities.
