VISA EXCEEDS HALF A TRILLION IN SALES VOLUME

 SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Visa International announced today that it has hit a significant milestone toward reaching its projected goal of $1 trillion in annual sales volume by the year 1998. For the 12 months ending June 30, 1993, Visa sales reached $505 billion, exceeding half a trillion dollars for the first time. Volume was up 14 percent over the 12-month period ending June 30, 1992.
 Visa increased its cards in circulation worldwide to a record 316 million cards. Visa transactions also hit an all-time high for the 12-month period, totalling 6.73 billion.
 Accounting for 54 percent of the worldwide card market, Visa has fast become the preferred consumer payment system throughout the world. The latest figures show that Visa is on track to reach its goal of substantially displacing other methods of payment, including cash and checks.
 Visa is the largest consumer payment system in the world with more than 10.5 million acceptance locations and over 316 million cards issued worldwide, including 157 million in the United States. Visa also has the leading global ATM network.
